Tiny Cameras

To record our lives without merely holding a camera sounds unrealistic for now but an innovation in the camera industry has been made that has made this bizarre idea a possibility.

Lens free tiny camera:

A camera has been created by researchers that is a lens free camera almost as thin as a paper. The size of the camera is 0.04 inch by 0.05 inch. The size of the device makes it practicable to be placed anywhere. The research named as "8x8 Heterodyne Lens-less  OPA Camera" written by Reza Fatemi, Behrooz Abiri and Ali Hajimiri states that by applying the use of photonics components on silicon chips has resulted in the creation of this lens free camera. The research paper firstly talks about the mechanism of this camera. It states that by adjusting the phase of light arrays to form a beam of light and spreading it into different directions, the camera can form an image. Therefore, the device is embedded with 64 light receivers that receives light waves. Each single array is controlled by the computer to receive the light waves and electromagnetically the light waves coming from a certain direction are accepted only. This acceptance of the light wave from a particular direction enables a synthetic aperture that can from an image.

According to the researchers, the whole of the back of the mobile can also act as a camera by using this optical phased array technology. When tested, the device can form an image immediately by catching the desired light waves. Moreover, it doesn't require pointing the device in a particular direction to capture the light, instead the computerized technology automatically does the trick.

The traditional cameras have lenses that is made of glass. For a camera to be better, bigger lenses are used with bigger glasses. The issue with these large glasses is the possibility of distorting the colors of the image. The researchers supports the optical phased array technology through the fact that since this technology does not use glasses, true colors of the image are maintained.

This means that we can record anything or anyone without making it obvious.
